Our 25 Best Independent Golf Brands
The best independent golf brands right now are Manors Golf, Students Golf, Gumtree Golf & Nature Club, Sentinel Golf, Jones Sports Co, Birds of Condor, Devereux Golf, Metalwood Studio, VESSEL and Fyfe Golf, with fifteen more below. Independent golf is where the most interesting ideas in the game are coming from: small labels, mostly run by the people who started them, making golf clothes, bags and headcovers that a big brand would never sign off on.
We picked these twenty-five on taste, on our own experience with the brands, and on who is doing the most interesting work right now. We have spent the year covering them out of Austin, in Brand to Know profiles, drops, gift guides and the gear we take to the city’s munis. Each brand comes with the three signature pieces we would buy first, and a link to its page in the Brand Index, where every post we have written about it lives.
Looking for more than twenty-five? See every independent golf brand in the Index, or browse the full golf brand directory.
How we picked
This is an editor’s list, not a formula. Every brand on it makes good things, makes them consistently and has a clear point of view, and every one is doing something we think is to watch closely in 2026. Almost all are still run by the people who started them, or by a family, rather than by a parent company. Two are editor’s picks on ownership: Manors, which has taken a minority outside investment, and Odd Ritual, which has not named its owners publicly.
The three signature pieces for each brand were chosen from its own store, and prices and stock were read there on October 6, 2026. Prices outside the US are shown in the store’s currency with an approximate dollar figure.

Manors Golf
Best for: Technical golf clothes that look vintage
Manors started in London in 2019 arguing that golf did not need technical clothing, then relaunched in 2023 as a technical brand without changing how anything looks. The result is modern fabric, like Polartec polos and recycled trousers, cut to a silhouette borrowed from golf's golden age.
Founded in London in 2019 by school friends Jojo Regan and Luke Davies, who still run it; a 2026 minority round was led by Redrice Ventures.

Students Golf
Best for: Streetwear-leaning trousers and polos
Students filters streetwear, campus culture and vintage Americana through golf: the Calculus pants, the Librarian polo, the 1st String sweater. It is golf clothing from people who grew up on skate videos and college football Saturdays, with a deep bench of collaborations behind it.
Founded in 2021 by Michael Huynh with business partner Bryan Lowman.

Gumtree Golf & Nature Club
Best for: Upcycled, one-of-a-kind headcovers
Gumtree works out of a Brooklyn studio, sewing headcovers, bags and clothes from deadstock, vintage and upcycled textiles, some of them wetsuit neoprene. Almost everything is made in New York or Los Angeles, and the brand also runs ecology retreats in the Catskills.
Founder Karsten Jurkschat has said the brand is self-funded with no investors.

Sentinel Golf
Best for: Dyneema carry bags
Sentinel is a small design studio in Minneapolis that makes golf bags out of Dyneema and Danish leather, working with makers from outside golf. John Mooty sells on limited pre-order with no restocks and no discounts, so the best colours go quickly.
John Mooty designs and runs it from Minneapolis, selling mostly by pre-order.

Jones Sports Co
Best for: The classic carry bag
Jones has made the same carry bag since 1971, and the restraint is the product: no legs, no cart strap, a light bag with a three-way divider. When the current owners revived it in 2011 there were no patterns left, so they rebuilt the shape from bags borrowed off old customers.
Family-owned: the Lemman family bought it in 2011, and Dean Lemman runs it as CEO.

Birds of Condor
Best for: Snapbacks for clubs that don’t exist
Birds of Condor is funny on purpose and made properly anyway. Frankie and Zoe Kimpton started with ten hats out of a Byron Bay garage in 2016, and their snapbacks for country clubs that do not exist were shipping to Japan, South Korea and the US within months.

Devereux Golf
Best for: Leather headcovers and workwear jackets
Devereux is an apparel brand that happens to be famous for its leather headcovers. Robert Brunner left the gas industry for a year at fashion school, came back with a golf line and brought in his brother Will; the clothes sit closer to workwear than a golf shell, and are fine off the course.
Founded in 2013 by brothers Robert and Will Brunner, and still family-run.

Metalwood Studio
Best for: Art-directed caps and outerwear
Metalwood is art-directed first, and Cole Young has built the most consistent visual identity in independent golf out of medieval heraldry and industrial signage. An adidas partnership and a store on La Brea Avenue show how far that point of view has travelled.
Founder Cole Young has said he is still the only person on the cap table.

VESSEL
Best for: Premium stand bags
VESSEL has made premium bags and headcovers out of Carlsbad since Ronnie Shaw founded it in 2013, and he still runs it. Its annual Masters-week limited edition is the one to watch: three of this year's five green croc-texture pieces were already gone when we wrote about it.

Fyfe Golf
Best for: Harris Tweed headcovers

Radry Golf
Best for: Funny putter covers and caps
Radry is one Wisconsin artist, Tony Knapton, and his logo is the tell: one eye a circle for birdies, the other a square for bogeys, and a wave for the up and down of a round. The runs are numbered, so the good ones do not come back.
Tony Knapton's one-artist brand, run out of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Mogshade

MacKenzie Golf Bags
Best for: Custom-built leather and canvas bags

Kingfisher Golf
Best for: Dallas tees, polos and hats
Kingfisher treats a shirt like a design brief, which follows from Fiona Cohen's years as an art director at PepsiCo. The graphics are drawn carefully and printed simply, some at Lewellyn's in Old East Dallas, and the brand signed its first athlete through a Worst Golfer in Dallas contest.

Sounder
Best for: Golf knitwear
Sounder makes the golf clothes a well-dressed person already owns: cotton polos, good knitwear, a decent chino. It comes from the founders of Folk and Urban Golf in London, is named for Seve's first clubs, and the knitwear is the reason to know the name.
Founded in London in 2020 by Cathal McAteer and James Day, the two people the UK register lists as controlling it.

Pins & Aces
Best for: Ball markers and novelty covers
Pins & Aces is family-owned in Colorado, started in 2018 by brothers-in-law Nick Mertz and Jon Major, and embroiders its graphic headcovers in house. It holds a real Coca-Cola licence, which is how a soft-drink logo ends up on a ball marker.
Founded in 2018 by brothers-in-law Nick Mertz and Jon Major in Colorado, with no private equity.

Left of Field Golf
Best for: Sydney polos and pleated shorts
