Ranking the Muni Grub — Every On-Course Food Spot in Austin

Austin has five public golf courses and the on-course food situation at each one tells a very different story. We ranked every food spot across the muni system — from vending machines to full-service cantinas — so you know exactly what you're walking into before you tee it up.

Fairways Cantina at Morris Williams takes the crown. Cisco's Muny Cafe at Lions Municipal is a close second — the kind of no-frills counter that's been fueling rounds since before most of us were born. Stag & Finch at Jimmy Clay/Roy Kizer holds down third, and Hancock's clubhouse window rounds out the list with vending-machine vibes redeemed by the neighborhood restaurants nearby. If you're choosing your muni based on the course alone, you're only getting half the picture.

Hancock Golf Course — Austin, TX
#4 · Hancock GC
The Clubhouse Window
On-site food is just a vending machine — no kitchen, no menu, no one cooking anything. But Jo's Coffee is right around the corner with solid coffee and snacks before your round. Post-round grub is where Hancock wins: there's a great wing spot nearby and Otherside Deli, one of the best sandwich shops in Austin, is a quick five-minute drive. The course itself has zero food game, but the neighborhood picks up the slack.

Stag & Finch Scottish Alehouse — Jimmy Clay / Roy Kizer
#3 · Stag & Finch
Jimmy Clay / Roy Kizer
RS3 Culinary took over the old snack bar and gave it a Scottish pub theme. Classic pub grub — burgers, Scotch eggs, nothing too special but it works. It's a real sit-down spot where the two courses meet, open daily. Not a destination on its own, but after 36 holes at Jimmy Clay and Roy Kizer you're not driving anywhere. It gets the job done.

Cisco's Muny Cafe — Lions Municipal Golf Course
#2 · Cisco's Muny Cafe
Lions Municipal
Austin's oldest Tex-Mex meets Austin's oldest public golf course. Cisco's opened at the Lions clubhouse in late 2021, serving migas, breakfast tacos, chicken tacos, burgers, nachos, and fajitas — plus frozen margaritas from a cart on the course. Indoor and outdoor seating with views of the fairways. It's Cisco's — you already know the food is good.

Fairways Cantina patio overlooking Morris Williams Golf Course
#1 · Fairways Cantina
Morris Williams
The best muni food in Austin and it's not close. Three neighborhood residents opened Fairways Cantina at Morris Williams in 2020. Named tacos — Happy Gilmore (carne asada), Great White Shark (beer-battered snapper), Black Knight (blackened shrimp). Fresh guac, queso, loaded cantina fries, top-shelf frozen margs. Dog-friendly patio with the best views in East Austin. Open 7am–9pm in summer. This is a restaurant that happens to be on a golf course.
