A back-to-back walking tournament across two of Austin's most storied muni courses. 36 holes. No carts. All donations benefit First Tee — helping kids build character through golf.
Here's the idea: back-to-back tee times, two courses that share a parking lot, and zero motorized transport. You play 18 at Jimmy Clay, walk across to Roy Kizer, and play 18 more. Simple format, hard on the calves.
Jimmy Clay has been an Austin fixture since 1929 — a classic muni layout with tree-lined fairways and greens that reward precision over power. Roy Kizer, opened in 1972, is the wider, windier counterpart — links-influenced holes with water in play and more room to miss. Together they make one long, excellent walk.
36 holes, all walking. We need a minimum of 16 players to make this happen — four foursomes across back-to-back tee times. Format details will come together once we have the numbers, but expect something fun and competitive without taking itself too seriously.
All donations go to First Tee, which uses golf to help kids build confidence, resilience, and character. We're also thinking about custom tees for the event — something to commemorate surviving 36 holes on foot in the Austin heat. More details when we lock in a date.
Anyone in the Austin area who likes walking golf and doesn't mind being a little tired at the end of the day. You don't need to be good. You need to be willing to walk roughly eight miles carrying your clubs and still try to make a putt on the 36th green.
If that sounds like your kind of Saturday, drop your email below and we'll send details when we finalize the date and tee times.
Drop your name and email. If there's enough interest, we'll lock in a date, book the tee times, and send you everything you need to know. No spam. Just one event, one email.
We'll be in touch when the date is set. Start stretching.
