Every golfer in Austin has their regular muni rotation, but sometimes you need something bigger. A birthday round. An anniversary. A Tuesday where you just need to feel like you're on vacation. This is the list for that — eight courses within driving distance of Austin that justify the splurge and the extra hour in the car.
Wolfdancer Golf Club out in Lost Pines leads the pack — Arthur Hills carved it through the property like he had personal beef with flat terrain, and the closing stretch from 14 to 18 is one of the best in Texas. Fazio Canyons at Barton Creek, Ram Rock at Horseshoe Bay, and the underrated Vaaler Creek in Blanco round out the top. Green fees run from $52 at Falconhead to $275 at Barton Creek, so there's something here whether you're treating yourself or going all in.
