Founded 1979 by Jane Spicer and her mother. Made Frank, the tiger headcover Tiger Woods carried.
Daphne's Headcovers invented the animal headcover, and it made the most famous one in golf. The Phoenix company was founded in 1979 by Jane Spicer and her mother, Daphne. Frank, the tiger, went on Tiger Woods' driver at the 1997 Masters, Nike licensed the character and named him, and the business grew 400% in a quarter.
Spicer's one condition for the licensing deal was that Frank stay likable. Her late mother's actual signature is stitched into the label of every cover the company makes, which says a lot about how the family thinks of the business more than four decades on.
The range is more than a hundred animal designs at a flat $45.99, from wolf and shark to Jack Nicklaus's Golden Bear. Daphne's suits the golfer who wants a cover with a sense of humor and a real piece of golf history behind it. We included the brand in our guide to golf brands founded by women.
