The PAYNTR Collab Edit — 33 Shoes, Bags and Odds From Golf's Busiest Collaborator

33 Pieces
Students by PAYNTR golf shoe with STUDENTS printed across the translucent outsole

Look at the bottom of a PAYNTR collab and you will find the partner’s name printed across the outsole. Not a logo on the tongue, not a hangtag. The tread. Turn over the Students shoe and STUDENTS reads through translucent rubber; the Forresters shoe says FORRESTERS across the same panel. It is a small decision and most of why these sell out, because the branding stays invisible until somebody is standing behind you on a tee box.

PAYNTR has now done twenty-five collaborations with eleven brands, and thirteen of them landed in the last seventy-two days. The previous twelve run across the nineteen months before that, so the pace has roughly quadrupled this summer, and most of what came out of it has already sold through.

The brand comes from cricket. David Paynter played professionally, is the great-grandson of the England Ashes batsman Eddie Paynter, and started the label in 2017 because cricket footwear was bad. Golf came later, run out of Portland, Oregon with Mike Forsey and Michael Glancy Jr., who both had long careers in performance footwear before this. That background is why the shoes are competent and why the graphics live under them rather than on them.

The partners run from Students and Sugarloaf Social Club through Jones, Khalhon, Bad Birdie, Vessel, Ghost, Forresters, Matchstick and Del Campo, at prices from an eighteen dollar sock to a two hundred and fifty dollar shoe. PAYNTR’s own house line closes it out, and it is plainer than anything the brand makes with somebody else.

Students Golf

Students by PAYNTR WT · $240 · Sold out
Students Golf takes the PAYNTR outsole trick as far as it goes, with STUDENTS printed across translucent rubber so the branding only shows once the shoe leaves the ground. The upper is white and green with a pebbled saddle and COURSE STUDIES DIVISION stamped along the midsole. Seventeen days on sale at $240 and then gone.

Students Golf
Students by PAYNTR PT · $240 · Sold out
Students Golf ran the same shoe in tan, with the same translucent outsole treatment under a warmer upper. It is the quieter of the two colourways and it sold out alongside the white and green at $240.

Sugarloaf Social Club

SSC Eighty Seven · $250 · Sold out
The Eighty Seven is PAYNTR’s signature silhouette and Sugarloaf Social Club got one of the better runs of it. A white upper sits over red outsole graphics, so the collaboration reads as a plain shoe until the foot comes off the ground. It sold out at $250 and people still ask about it.

Sugarloaf Social Club
SSC x PAYNTR Summer Slides · $50 · Sold out
Sugarloaf Social Club put its name on a cream slide made for the walk from the eighteenth to the car. Cream keeps it closer to a recovery shoe than to anything shouting about a partnership. At $50 it sold out with the rest of the footwear from the run.

Sugarloaf Social Club
SSC x PAYNTR Rope Hat · $45 · Sold out
Sugarloaf Social Club and PAYNTR made a white five-panel with a rope brim, which at $45 was the cheapest way into a collaboration that mostly sold through. A rope brim is a small enough detail that the hat still works away from a course. The run is gone.

Sugarloaf Social Club
SSC x PAYNTR Tech Vest · $110
Sugarloaf Social Club keeps the tech vest to navy, a full zip and almost no branding, which is the opposite of how collaboration outerwear usually behaves. It is still in stock at $110 while the footwear from the same run is long gone.
Shop ↗
Sugarloaf Social Club
SSC x PAYNTR Windshirt · $125
The windshirt comes in cream, cropped, with a quarter zip, and it reads closer to a track jacket than to golf outerwear. That makes it easier to keep on after the round than most things in the category. PAYNTR lists it at $125.

Sugarloaf Social Club
SSC x PAYNTR Tech Hoody · $120
The tech hoody comes in a bright red that neither PAYNTR nor Sugarloaf Social Club uses much on its own, which is generally the point of putting two names on one garment. At $120 it is the loudest piece in the partnership and the easiest to spot from the next fairway.

Jones Sports Co

Jones RS by PAYNTR · $200 · Sold out
Jones Sports Co has been making bags since 1971 and had never made a shoe until this one. The RS came out at $200 and sold out, and the shape stayed conservative enough to sit under everything else Jones sells.
Shop ↗
Jones Sports Co
Jones x PAYNTR Slide · $55
The slide is black with the Jones mark and nothing else on it, and at $55 it is the cheapest way into the partnership. It stays in stock while the shoe does not, which is what happens when a collaboration prices one piece for everybody.
Shop ↗
Jones Sports Co
PAYNTR x Original Jones Bag · $200
Jones built the Original as a carry bag and PAYNTR put its X mark on one panel of the brown canvas version. Nothing else changes, which is the correct amount of intervention when the base object has been in production this long. PAYNTR lists it at $200.
Shop ↗
Jones Sports Co
PAYNTR x Jones Dual Shoe Bag · $90 · Sold out
The dual bag holds two pairs and comes in black with nothing printed on the outside. Two pairs is the format for anybody who keeps a second option in the boot of the car. PAYNTR and Jones sold through the $90 run.

Jones Sports Co
PAYNTR x Jones Shoe Bag · $65 · Sold out
The single-pair bag came first at $65 and the dual version followed it. Both sold out. A shoe bag is the piece a footwear brand and a bag brand were always going to make together.

Khalhon

Khalhon
PAYNTR x Khalhon FF · $250
Khalhon is the quietest of PAYNTR’s partners and got the longest run of product out of the arrangement. The FF is the shoe at the centre of it, still listed at $250 while most of the collaboration footwear has gone.
Shop ↗
Khalhon
PAYNTR x Khalhon Corduroy Cap · $30
Khalhon and PAYNTR made a corduroy six-panel and priced it at $30. Corduroy gives it more texture than the washed cotton most golf caps use, and it reads as a winter hat rather than a range hat. Thirty dollars is the least PAYNTR asks for anything with a partner name on it.
Shop ↗
Khalhon
PAYNTR x Khalhon Refined Polo · $54
PAYNTR shoots almost everything on white, and the Refined Polo is the one piece photographed on a model against grey seamless instead. The change suggests Khalhon had a say in how the thing was presented, which is not always true of a collaboration. PAYNTR lists it at $54.

Bad Birdie

Bad Birdie
Bad Birdie x PAYNTR Paint Splatter SL · $180 · Sold out
Bad Birdie put confetti splatter across the outsole and left the upper plain white, which is the PAYNTR trick working exactly as intended. All the noise sits underneath the shoe, where only the person behind you on the tee gets to see it. The $180 run sold out.
Shop ↗
Bad Birdie
Bad Birdie x PAYNTR AMERICA SL · $180 · Sold out
The AMERICA SL landed in July at $180 and went the same way as the splatter version. Both Bad Birdie shoes sold out and neither has come back, which is the pattern across most of what PAYNTR does with a partner.

The One-Offs

Vessel
VESSEL x PAYNTR SL Limited Edition · $240
Vessel and PAYNTR have the newest shoe in the programme, an SL in white and navy at $240. Two colours and no competing graphics make it about as restrained as this run gets. PAYNTR has now done twenty-five collaborations with eleven brands and this is the most recent of them.
Shop ↗
Ghost Golf
Ghost Golf Reaper SL · $200
Ghost Golf is a smaller partner than most of the names PAYNTR works with and came away with one of the better-looking shoes. The Reaper SL is a black upper over red outsole detailing, which puts the colour in the one place nobody sees until you walk away. PAYNTR lists it at $200.
Shop ↗
Forresters
FO Rainshedder® RS1 · $220 · Sold out
Forresters has FORRESTERS printed across the tread, the same treatment the Students shoe gets, under a black and cream upper. The Rainshedder is a waterproof build, which makes it the one collaboration in the run doing a job rather than a look. The $220 run sold out.
Shop ↗
Par x Design
Gators x Par x Design · Not for sale
Par x Design has a framed print documenting the Gators collaboration rather than a product, listed at $0 and marked sold out. Nobody was ever going to buy it, which makes it an artefact of the partnership instead of an item from it. Brands rarely put that kind of thing on a storefront at all.
Shop ↗
PAYNTR Golf
Moving Day SC RS Gator “Ghost Gray” · $200
The Ghost Gray Gator is the house model the Par x Design print was built around, and PAYNTR sells it under its own name at $200. Grey runs through the whole shoe, and it stays in stock while the collaborations do not.
Shop ↗
Matchstick Golf
PAYNTR x Matchstick Ball Marker · $20 · Sold out
Matchstick Golf makes enamel ball markers and PAYNTR came to it for the smallest object either brand has put its name on. Two runs at $20 and both sold out. A marker is also the only piece in the programme that fits in a pocket without being noticed.
Shop ↗
Del Campo
Del Campo by PAYNTR Quarter Sock · $18
Del Campo and PAYNTR made a white quarter sock with a smiley on one foot and the X mark on the other, a joke that only shows when you cross your legs. At $18 it is the cheapest collaboration PAYNTR has done.

What PAYNTR Makes On Its Own

PAYNTR Golf
X Driver Headcover 001 · $50
PAYNTR keeps its own accessories plainer than anything it makes with a partner, and the 001 driver cover is the clearest case of it. Black with the X mark and nothing else on the panel. PAYNTR sells it at $50.
Shop ↗
PAYNTR Golf
X Mallet Putter Cover · $40
The mallet cover closes with a magnet and carries no graphic beyond the X. Forty dollars buys a cover that will sit on a putter without arguing with whatever else is in the bag. PAYNTR makes the blade version at the same price.
Shop ↗
PAYNTR Golf
X Blade Putter Cover · $40
The blade version runs the same $40 and the same magnetic closure, cut for a blade head instead of a mallet. Both covers carry the X mark and nothing else. PAYNTR treats the two as a pair rather than ranking one above the other.

PAYNTR Golf
X Glove 001 Regular LH · $29
The 001 is a cabretta glove at $29 and the plainest thing in the house line. Gloves are the one category where PAYNTR’s footwear-first background shows least, because the construction leaves nowhere to put an idea.

PAYNTR Golf
X No Show Tab, Wool · $20
The no-show is merino with a heel tab, so it stays out of sight in a low shoe and still comes off without a fight. PAYNTR sells a single pair at $20 and the same sock in a three pack at $40.
Shop ↗
PAYNTR Golf
X No Show Tab, 3 Pack · $40
The three pack is the same merino no-show at $40, which is the sensible way to buy a sock you will wear every round. Buying singles at $20 only makes sense if you want to try one pair first.
Shop ↗
PAYNTR Golf
Bobble X Beanie · $14.50
The bobble beanie costs $14.50, which makes it the cheapest thing PAYNTR sells. It is left over from the cricket side of a business David Paynter started in 2017, and it stays in the catalogue because a cold morning works the same way in both games.
Shop ↗
PAYNTR Golf
X Slide Leather · $50
The leather slide is a recovery shoe at $50 with no partner branding on it anywhere. PAYNTR makes slides with its partners too, and the Sugarloaf and Jones versions run $50 and $55, so the house one is no more expensive for being plain.
